âĄMaximize Your Keynote Impact With Purpose
Hello, speaker-friend!
Theory is helpful, but hearing how others make it work? Thatâs where the magic happens.
Dr. Luc Colemont, an internationally known gastroenterologist and passionate advocate for colon cancer prevention, has given over 1,000 keynotes. Heâs turned his speaking career into something much bigger than just being on stage. Itâs a mission to save lives, one talk at a time.
During our webinar, he shared how purpose has shaped his journeyâand how it can shape yours, too.
Missed it? Or want to revisit the most inspiring moments?
Letâs jump in!
Takeaway 1: Start with a fire that won't burn out
Luc didnât set out to become a keynote speaker. It all started with what he saw every day in his work as a doctor: too many preventable cases of colon cancer. That fire to inform people turned into a callingâand a career.
âIf you donât see results from what youâre sharing, itâs hard to keep going. But when people tell me, âYou saved my life,â I know Iâm in the right place,â he said.
Find what lights that fire for you. Itâs what will keep you moving when the work feels tough.
Takeaway 2: Let purpose find you through Ikigai
Luc didnât go looking for his purpose. Instead, it revealed itself when he learned into what mattered: educating people about colon cancer prevention. He later learned the Japanese concept ikigai, which perfectly described his path.
âPassion, mission, vocation, and profession,â he said. âWhen they come together, youâve found your ikigai.â
Purpose isnât always a decision, itâs a discovery. Keep following what feels meaningful.
Takeaway 3: Let purpose find you through Ikigai
No two of Lucâs keynotes are ever the same. He customizes each one to fit his audience, whether itâs a 5-minute talk or a 60-minute keynote. He keeps it fresh with updated slides, new stories, and small touches like adding the eventâs logo to his title slide.
One of his favorite tricks? Starting with a bit of humor. âA laugh at the start prepares them to listen,â he shared. âHumor opens the audience's brains; thatâs proven scientifically!â
Takeaway 4: Boil it down to three words
Lucâs key message is unforgettable: âDo the test.â He repeats it at least seven times during each keynote and uses his voice and gestures to make it stick. By the end, audiences are chanting it back to him.
âDonât overcomplicate it,â he said. âGive them one clear action to remember.â
Whatâs your three-word message? Find it, and own it.
Takeaway 5: Paint pictures, not slideshows
Lucâs presentations arenât about data dumps; theyâre about storiesâof patients, prevention, and the ripple effect of action. His graphic novel, translated into 12 languages, brings the story of colon cancer to life in a way that connects with people emotionally. âStories are what people remember. They donât just hear themâthey feel them,â he shared.
As a visual dreamer, Lucâs keynotes reflect this ethos. He uses hundreds of carefully chosen images, keeping text minimal and timing jokes perfectly, creating an experience that feels more like a movie than a presentation.
Make your visuals unforgettable, and let them tell your story.
Dr. Luc Colemontâs journey shows that purpose is more than an idea. Itâs the force behind every memorable talk. Itâs the fire that gets you on stageâand keeps you there.
